Immanuel & St Andrew's is a one form entry school set in a very pleasant environment. It is housed in a single storey building, so access is not a problem.
The school has a very well resourced website, well worth visiting
immanuel & st andrews
During 2009 we surveyed schools to find out how teachers were finding things, especially as the government's aim was to 'reduce workload'
Some schools are very positive, but it is important that teachers are aware from other schools how it works elsewhere.
For example, there is no need for there to be more than one sixty minutre management organised meeting per week. Schools try to suggest that this is impossible. But it is not impossible and happens in some locations
The information that follows explains this particualar school. Please contact us if things have changed or if there are any concerns to raise.

Teachers Covering

It seems that teachers are still expected to cover

Meeting arrangements

The head calls more than one meeting and this is often in excess of one hour

PPA time

PPA is not always strictly adhered to for some teachers

Lesson Observations

Lesson observations are not always in line with Lambeth protocol

Workload

Unfortunately, workload has not been reduced in past two years

If you are intent on applying for work there, you need to consider these questions:

Do you like working where you can be movedaway from an area of your expertise?

Maternity leave is according to the Burgundy Book and is only half that of the local authority's in terms of full time pay (this is not unusual for Foundation Schools)

If you are a very experienced class teacher or one with a high level of skills, are you happy to be moved to doing PPA, even with consultation?

Are you happy with not only having more than three performance objectives, but for each one to be subdivided into many parts?

Are you happy with being observed as often as the headteacher deems necessary when you are clearly satisfactory?

As in some other schools, lesson observations are graded using Ofsted criteria. This is against the advice of our Union, NASUWT and even Ofsted.
